Stephen Williamson
Mr. Williamson was appointed principal clarinetist of the Metropolitan
Opera Orchestra in 2003. As a core member of the Met chamber ensemble,
Stephen has performed extensively with Maestro James Levine both as
soloist and chamber artist. As a Fullbright Scholar and featured artist
for the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival he has performed widely in
Europe with many distinguished musicians including members of the Berlin
Philharmonic. He has appeared with the New York Philharmonic, the
Orchestra of St. Luke's, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, American Symphony
Orchestra, American Ballet theatre, New York City Opera, Soloisti NY
Chamber Orchestra among others, and has recorded on Sony Classics, Telarc,
CRI, BMG, and Decca labels. Mr. Williamson is on the faculty of Columbia
University and the Mannes College of Music and is a graduate of both the
Eastman (BM) and Juilliard (MM) Schools of Music. He resides in Rockland
County with his wife Jill and their three sons Ryan, Connor and Matthew.
Stephen has played Pyne mouthpieces exclusively for many years, including
the Bel Canto and a special Bc/Jx hybrid model.
